Short Description:
Most people know very little about the US Submarine Force. When they think of submarines, they think of movies they have seen; Hunt for Red October or Run Silent Run Deep come to mind, among others.
The Hood brothers discovered just how many real and amazing stories of the men and boats they rode were out there. Based on the immensely popular feedback from Sub Tales, they assembled another jam-packed collection of true stories—the majority of which are little-known. None of the stories published in this volume contain classified information, but the stories still jump off the pages.
This brand-new collection of 36 richly illustrated stories, written in the same style as Sub Tales, takes the reader on a set of fascinating adventures and explains many of the traditions and lore of the US Submarine Force. The accuracy of storytelling is enhanced by the participation of more than two dozen veteran submariners who vetted the material for its precise and true-to-life content.
The authors are proud to add More Sub Tales to the growing “Poopie Suits” series of true submarine stories. As a whole, these books add substantially to greater awareness of, and respect for, what really happens on a submarine.
Long Description:
The authors of the Poopie Suits and Cowboy Boots series are pleased to announce the publication of More Sub Tales, the sequel to the immensely popular Sub Tales: Stories that Seldom Surface.
More Sub Tales joins the series with 36 new stories about the Silent Service, spanning more than a century of history from the experimental submarines conceived by Simon Lake in the late nineteenth century to the christening of the USS Hawaii (SSN-776) in 2006. Together these stories weave a compelling and instructive narrative of American submarines and the men who rode them.
Richly illustrated with 350 photographs, More Sub Tales will entertain and inform the reader about key moments and milestones in the evolution of submarines. Learn about the many ordeals, sacrifices, and brave acts that represent the proud legacy of this underappreciated segment of our Armed Forces.
Each story has been carefully vetted by more than two dozen veteran submariners for accuracy, and in most chapters, additional authenticity has been gained by interviewing actual participants.
Among the many topics covered are the devastating fire that swept through the USS Bonefish (SS-582) in 1988; the story of Wally Bishop, the beloved Chief of the Boat on the doomed USS Scorpion (SSN-589); and the remarkable story of Slade Cutter, one of the most revered submarine captains of all time.
Written in a clear easy to understand manner, this richly-researched volume chronicles what makes the US Submarine Force one of the world’s elite military groups.

I've read all of the submarine books that have been published by the Hood brothers and they are all great reads. Sub Tales and More Sub Tales in particular are riveting because they tell stories, that as noted, seldom surface. Submarines are the silent service and these are stories that give a glimpse into the world of submariners. The stories encompass all time frames from the beginning of the US Sub Service all the way through the cold war. Very entertaining and hard to put down. Highly recommended.

Great book to get an idea of submarine life during WWII and the Cold War. I highly recommend it if you want to get a flavor of submarine sea stories.
